nice friendly beaches where i can wear my skimpy bikini and check out other guys in theirs
my first visit 4yrs ago i stayed at a nice clothing optional place on the beach. inquired about the bars/clubs inland. most everyone (guests and employees) warned of even thinking of driving anywhere after dark. The police are notariously active at this time. My return visit this past summer my friends and I stayed at a gh closer to WiltonManors. We were there for a week w a rental car. The first night out, on the way to our first bar, we were practically chased down 4th by a police car that was more than 2 blocks back - no flashing lights or sirens. No other cars were on the road. We had a designated driver so there was no reason for such a dramatic move on part of the police. We had luckily reached our destination and quickly parked as the police car slowed and drove by. That incident put a bit of a wet blanket on any fun that night. We stayed at the resort the following night for fear of it happening again. The third night we attempted to venture out again. With a different rental car driven by another guest. We went out for dinner in Wilton Manors. No problems on our drive there. After dinner(w a designated driver) we drove down 4th headed to a nearby bar. Once again, we were practically the only car on the road. Sure enough, a police car turned onto 4th 2-3 blocks behind us and immediately came after us like a bat. No flashing lights or sirens, just flying down 4th after us at a high speed. we darted the car into the bar parking lot just as he caught up to us just as before. He slowed and then continued on again. I could see if we had been speeding or driving irradically. We were obivously uber cautious our second time out. A different rental car each time, eliminates legal issues with tags etc... I\'m all for taking DUI seriously, it does kill. But when it\'s taken over the top to where it infringes on basic freedoms you\'ve got a problem. We couldnt figure out if this were an issue in just the gay areas of FTL or if it were county wide. In either case, the community and business leaders of FTL need to investigate and see why such behavior is tolerated. I dont live in FTL (no disrespect) but maybe DUI is a big problem here and this type of aggressiveness is needed? This has hopefully been reported before by other visitors. I was warned over 4 years ago my first visit. To find it still the norm there are bound to be other complaints. Great place to visit, but you cant relax and enjoy it. Why bother?
quick get away from chicago during the winter
none
Ft Lauderdale is a relitivly innexpensive gay vacation.
you need a reasonably priced accomodation for single travellers espcially from uk $125 dollars anight for 14 nights is too expensive
I like the friendly non-pretentious atmosphere

Number of quality & innovative restaurants.
chance to catch up with friends we met on a prior visit
GREAT AREA, WOULD LIKE TO RELOCATE
Love it here try to come down once or twice a year. Easy to get around. Lose the unfriendly Mayor though
Fort Lauderdale is a great destination. You should also market it on the other side of the Atlantic as classy gay destination. I hadn\'t hear about it until very recently and will definitely be returning soon.
We come up from Miami do do most of our shopping, theatre-going, and entertainment in general as Ft Lauderdale offers a much more concentrated and easily navigated experience. You just have so much more!
We have spent time in Ft Lauderdale prior to this visit and we had a good time, so we came back and I am sure we will be back again soon.
We had been to Key West and wanted to try something a little closer to home.
I traveled to FT Lauderdale for business and decided to add some personal days to the end of my business trip.
the morning on lauderdale beach and the fitness minded people, look in the surf and seeing a league of swimmer. running backwards in the sand and seeing my footsteps in front of me for the first time. It stop things for a moment , I was pleased to know i was sober enough to do it
I want to make these trips to Fort Lauderdale an annual event, because it is such a nice place for the gay traveler to unwind.
I would NEVER stay at the Elysium! We visited some friend staying there and were treated VERY badly. They were down right rude to us. We stayed at the Schubert and loved it there!!
I first became interested in visiting when I picked up a Fun Map and then saw all the listings in the Damron Guide.
We love Ft Lauderdale\'s open and accepting gay atmosphere. We try to come at least once a year sometimes more. I would like to see more organization of the advertizement of gay events, dining, movies etc.
Gay life
like Ft Lauderdale as has a large population of gay middle aged and older men
gay bars, and hot guys
We like the idea that the Ft, Lauderdale area offers sun, fine beaches, cultural choices, fine dining and is accepting of the gay lifestyle dispite it\'s homophobic mayor.
We love coming here and always have a lot of fun
Used Naked Concierge to book rooms
Stayed in Wilton Manors - GREAT community - Great people - Surprising community as to its social/support/business community
Had fun as always. But traffic is a nightmare. The free & rather open feelin atmosphere of gay life seems very much at odds with news reports of gay bashing & police harrassment.
I booked flights, car rental & reservations directly with vendors and got better prices than the booking services offered and no service charges. It was a no brainer decision.
Just wanted to relax in a private spa atmosphere. Found the place through one of the gay bar magazines.
I prefer Wilton Manners area myself, Downtown Lauderdale is not really that friendly anymore, the parking is expensive and limited and is the main reason I do not spend my time and money in Lauderdale proper. Charging for meters until 3 AM is ridiculous, never been any place that they did that, of course now that there are no gay bars or restaurants downtown is another reason I don\'t go there.
nightlife is very far from the gay hotel where we stayed at...if you don\'t rent a car it can get very expensive...guesthouses should make clear how far they are away from the gay bars/restaurants/nightlife..one reason why not planning to come back to ft. lauderdale soon..
Heard a lot about the area and gay friendliness
